Helping public authorities procure ICT based on Standards: Survey open.
Action 23 of the Digital Agenda of Europe aims at providing guidance on ICT standardisation and public procurement. Draft guidelines are now ready, advising public authorities how to make the best use of available standards when commissioning hardware, software and IT services from external suppliers. The advice is illustrated with best practices found all over Europe. The European Commission is seeking views on how useful these guidelines might be, as well as views on practical implementation measures. A short survey has been launched and will be open until 14 February 2012. http://ec.europa.eu/yourvoice/ipm/forms/dispatch?form=standards

Digital Agenda Progress Report 2011. The annual report published today provides an overview of progress on the actions of the Digital Agenda for Europe, updating the list of completed actions since the Digital Agenda Scoreboard in May 2011, and outlining the work ahead. This document is part of the efforts of the European Commission on the implementation and governance of the Digital Agenda, further to other activities in 2011 including the Digital Agenda Scoreboard, the Digital Agenda Assembly, and the Digital Agenda Going Local. The overall aim of the Digital Agenda is to deliver sustainable economic and social benefits from a digital single market based on fast and ultra fast internet and interoperable applications. http://ec.europa.eu/information_society/newsroom/cf/itemdetail.cfm?item_id=7699&utm_campaign=isp&utm_medium=rss&utm_source=newsroom&utm_content=type-news

Mobile internet increasingly available, but EU still missing out on growth-creating potential of high speed broadband. Neelie Kroes, Vice-President of the European Commission responsible for the Digital Agenda, welcomed figures just released which show a solid increase in the availability of both mobile internet and basic quality fixed broadband lines. At the same time the Commissioner warned that Europe risked missing out on badly needed economic growth if it does not step up a gear and increase the capacity of its broadband networks. Studies show that a 10 percentage point increase in broadband take-up boosts annual GDP growth by 1 to 1.5%. http://ec.europa.eu/information_society/newsroom/cf/itemdetail.cfm?item_id=7693&utm_campaign=isp&utm_medium=rss&utm_source=newsroom&utm_content=type-news

GMES
NEWS

NEREUS published a position paper on the funding of GMES beyond 2014. The Network of European Regions Using Space Technologies (NEREUS) has published a position paper entitled “Provisions for GMES in the Multiannual Financial Framework 2014-2020”.
In this document, NEREUS “urges the European Commission to ensure sustainable funding within the framework of the Multi Financial Framework of 2014-2020 in order to secure the timely delivery of Europe’s GMES flagship programme”. NEREUS considers that whereas GMES is both an opportunity for economic growth and a vital tool for territorial management for the regions, the European Commission’s proposal to exclude GMES from the Multi Financial Framework for 2014-2020 will increase inequalities between EU countries. http://www.gmes.info/pages-secondaires/news/news-detail/?tx_ttnews[tt_news]=640&tx_ttnews[backPid]=9&cHash=a9b05ae2ea56239a9e76ec00968b98a1
