Tre missioni scientifiche ESA di osservazione della Terra fanno un passo avanti.L’ESA ha annunciato le tre missioni Earth Explorer che si sono candidate per passare alla fase successiva di sviluppo. Bruxelles: il presidente Marrazzo ha consegnato ai 27 rappresentanti permanenti presso l’Ue la traduzione del Manifesto di Ventotene in tutte le lingue dell’Unione. Un cofanetto contenente 27 copie rilegate del Manifesto di Ventotene, scritto nelle 23 lingue ufficiali dell’Unione Europea e contenenti anche numerose fotografie e una descrizione di Ventotene, isola d’Europa, e della sua storia. È il regalo simbolico che il presidente della Regione Lazio Piero Marrazzo ha consegnato oggi nella sala Yehudi Menuhin della sede di Bruxelles del Parlamento Europeo a tutti i rappresentanti permanenti dei 27 Paesi membri presso l’Unione Europea, alla presenza e sotto l’alto patrocinio del Presidente del Parlamento Europeo, on. Hans-Gert Pöttering.

Efficienza energetica edifici, erogati in un giorno 5,5 milioni di euro. “I dati circa l’erogazione dei fondi per l’efficienza energetica negli edifici dimostrano la bontà delle politiche della Regione Lazio in materia d’energia. Nel giro di un giorno, infatti, attraverso il sistema telematico messo a punto da Sviluppo Lazio sono stati erogati tutti i 5,5 milioni di euro messi a disposizione dal bando e sono state accettate domande con riserva per un altro 30%”. E’ un importante accordo di collaborazione quello annunciato il 26 febbraio scorso da Microsoft e Vodafone.Le due società hanno messo a punto una offerta congiunta che unisce, in una soluzione integrata, i servizi voce e dati fissi e mobili di Vodafone e i Microsoft Online Services. Si tratta di una offerta indirizzata al mondo delle imprese, che potranno così accede a Exchange Online, Office Communications Online, Office Live Meeting, SharePoint Online.La disponibilità del servizio è strettamente correlata al lancio deglo Online Services di Microsoft sui mercati diversi da quello statunitense. Si parla, a livello indicativo, di questa prima metà dell’anno, con un primo deployment in Germania e Spagna.

Wildfires affected by climate change.Recent data and model simulations have indicated that anthropogenic climate change can stimulate fire activity, but paleo records (indicators of past climate) also provide us with a view into the past. By using these records, an international team of scientists has discovered that abrupt climate change during a phase of forest expansion can trigger more wildfires. Call for proposals under the work programme of the Artemis Joint Undertaking (2009/C 52/06)- ARTEMIS-2009-1.ARTEMIS research projects are industry-driven projects in the field of embedded systems, which aim at generating new and improved technologies and in applying them in products, processes or services; in order to strengthen the competitiveness of European industry, improve sustainability, and facilitate the emergence of new markets and applications that respond to societal needs. The activities to be carried out in the context of a project can include:
- research and technological development activities, reflecting the core activities of the project; these should aim at a significant advance beyond the established state-of-the-art
- demonstration or experimental development activities, designed to prove the viability of new technologies that offer a potential economic advantage, but which cannot be commercialised directly (e.g. testing of product-like prototypes)

Last year, the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) set up the Center for Science Diplomacy. In an interview with CORDIS News, the Center’s director, Vaughan Turekian, talked about its work and explains why he thinks Europe offers one of the best examples of what science diplomacy can do. So, what is science diplomacy? Europeans pursue better energy technologies.The Nordic region is renowned for its work on the protection of the environment. For its part, the Research Council of Norway has announced that it will grant funding to eight national research centres for the development of environmentally friendly technologies. La Commissione elimina gli obblighi d’informazione finanziaria per le piccolissime imprese.La Commissione europea ha presentato una proposta che permetterebbe agli Stati membri di dispensare pienamente le micro-imprese dell’UE dall’obbligo di fornire informazioni finanziarie. In una congiuntura economica sfavorevole, le nuove norme permetteranno di ridurre gli obblighi amministrativi a carico di queste imprese. Complessivamente, quest’alleggerimento normativo si tradurrebbe in un risparmio fino a 6,3 miliardi di euro.
