It will enable a detailed discussion on the Usage Areas requirements and in particular how they can be part of the bigger picture of Future Internet evolution in Europe. 14 June 2011, Brussels, Belgium Smart Accessibility Awards. The European Disability Forum (EDF), AGE Platform Europe (AGE) and the Vodafone Foundation are jointly launching “Smart Accessibility Awards”. Researchers and developers are asked to create mobile applications to improve the lives of ageing users and users with disabilities. The competition will be held in 4 categories: social participation, independent living, mobility and well-being. During this launch event the debate will focus on how the smartphone platforms can enable low cost and rapid innovation and ensure the widespread distribution of new functionalities to users who may otherwise be excluded from the benefits of today’s digital society.
24 June 2011, Budapest, Hungary. The Implementation of the Telecoms Regulatory Framework in EU12: Policy, Regulatory and Market Challenges. This conference firstly aims at discussing the implementation of the regulatory framework and market outcomes in the EU12 Member States (countries that joined the EU over the past years). Secondly, it wants to assess peculiarities and differences in regulation and market dynamics within EU15 Member States (countries that were members of the EU before the enlargement on 1st May 2004), characterized by a longer process of market liberalization and competition enhancement. The event is organised by the Florence School of Regulation at the European University Institute under the patronage of the Hungarian Presidency of the European Union.

Commission report highlights Europe’s innovation emergency and analyses Member States’ progress. The EU’s innovation performance needs major improvements in many areas if the Europe 2020 strategy is to deliver smart sustainable growth, concludes the European Commission’s 2011 Innovation Union Competitiveness Report. Europe needs more and “smarter” investment in both public and private research and development – not only does this boost growth in the medium-term, it also has a counter-cyclical effect in times of crisis. More research cooperation within the EU and internationally is needed, along with better use of research results, including through a stronger intellectual property regime. Education systems need to be adapted to business innovation needs. Commission makes Europa website accessible for Internet Protocol version 6 users. On World IPv6 Day the European Commission is making its Europa website accessible for Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) users (as well as IPv4 users). The Internet operates by transferring data in small packets that are independently routed across networks, as specified by an international communications protocol known as the Internet Protocol. Hungary signs eCall Memorandum of Understanding. Hungary today signed the eCall Memorandum of Understanding (eCall MoU). It is the 22 Member State which by its signature commits to the timely deployment of eCall in Europe. In case of a serious accident, an eCall-equipped car automatically calls the appropriate emergency call centre even if nobody in the car is able to make a phone call. The eCall device then sends a set of basic data about the accident. The most important data are the accurate coordinates of the crash site. Invitation to Tender: Study on “Analysis of the needs for cross-border services and assessment of the organisational, legal, technical and semantic barriers” – SMART 2011/0074. On the basis of already existing cross-border eGovernment pilot services and other EU initiatives, the study will explore and substantiate the existing and future needs (including socioeconomic, environmental, legal and even sector specific needs) and demand for cross-border eGovernment services. Benchmarking deployment of e-health among general practitioners II — SMART 2011/0033. The objective of this study is to measure the use of ICT by primary care physicians in the EU-27, Croatia, Iceland, Norway and Turkey; through the organisation of a survey to collect the necessary data and indicators to describe the main relevant dimensions of the phenomena: use of internet and other ICT based applications by primary care physicians, for their work, including communication with patients and the electronic exchange of information with primary and secondary care and other health actors, with nurses, carers, insurance and pharmacies. The results of that study will be used as a key baseline for the second eHealth action plan (eHAP) 2012-2020. Study “Inventory and review of spectrum use: Assessment of the EU potential for improving spectrum efficiency” – SMART 2011/0016. The study shall gather detailed information from each Member State, develop a methodology and on that basis perform a review of existing spectrum use and identify a set of frequency bands where efficiency of use can be improved. The methodology shall include an analysis of the technical, economic and social efficiency of existing spectrum use, as well as examine both private and public spectrum users. IPv6 Deployment Monitoring – SMART 2011-0059. The objective of this study is to measure the deployment of IPv6, i.e. the availability, the quality, and the usage of IPv6 in products and services, in the European Union, in 2011 and 2012. To achieve this objective the contractor should carry out the following tasks: Develop a methodology and conduct specific IPv6 implementation measures for all or representative EU Member States in 2011 and 2012; Use available statistics and appropriate metrics to assess the global deployment of IPv6 and compare the differences in the various areas of the different Regional Internet Registries; Identify critical gaps and bottlenecks in IPv6 deployment, also in respect to the quality of available products and services and to the security implications in deployment; Document the work done and describe the results in a way that the Commission can easily disseminate on its website. Risultati ENERGIA – Analisi partecipazione italiana al bando FP7-Energy-2011-2. La Commissione Europea ha fornito i risultati del bando FP7-Energy-2011-2 chiuso il 7 Aprile 2011. Complessivamente delle 72 proposte ritenute eleggibili solo 32 sono state valutate “sopra la soglia” , mentre 40 hanno ricevuto nel corso della valutazione un punteggio inferiore a 10/15. A Scoreboard has been published by the European Commission showing the performance of the EU and Member States in delivering on the agreed targets of the Digital Agenda for Europe after the first year of its existence. Small business gets an advocate in each EU member state. New advocates were appointed in each EU member state within the framework of the Small Business Act (SBA). LaMiaImpresaOnline: siti gratis per le aziende. Si chiama La Mia Impresa Online ed è il nuovo progetto dedicato alle imprese sostenuto da Seat Pagine Gialle, Google, Register.it e Poste Italiane. Si tratta di un’iniziativa già collaudata in altri Paesi, come il Regno Unito, che giunge in Italia con qualche novità, aspirando a dar slancio alle piccole e medie imprese interessate ad allargare il loro business tramite Internet. La plenaria di Strasburgo ha salvato, per ora, gli aiuti europei per Campania, Calabria, Puglia e Sicilia. Nella votazione sulla proposta del Parlamento europeo per le prospettive finanziarie 2013-2020 e’ passato infatti l’emendamento, presentato dal gruppo socialista su forte impegno del Pd, che impone una clausola di salvaguardia nella creazione di una categoria intermedia delle regioni destinatarie degli aiuti europei. Tale categoria, voluta su spinta francese, spagnola e portoghese, destina aiuti alle regioni il cui Pil e’ tra il 75 ed il 90% della media europea.Di fatto e’ stata creata per continuare ad erogare aiuti a regioni che rischiavano di uscirne dalla lista dell’ex ‘obiettivo 1’, ora ‘obiettivo convergenza’, (aiuti alle regioni il cui Pil e’ inferiore al 75% di quello Ue). In Italia vi entreranno a far parte Sardegna, Abruzzo, Molise e Basilicata.
